AUGUSTA, Georgia -- Tulsa junior Michael Such was one of 42 collegiate punters named as a candidate for the 2009 Ray Guy Award, announced Friday by the Augusta Sports Council. Such is one of five Conference USA punters named to the list of candidates for an award that identifies the nation’s top collegiate punter.
Such has already punted more times this year (35) as he did all of last season (22), and has a 43.7 average on 35 punts. He had a season-best 64-yard punt at UTEP.
The list will be narrowed to 10 semifinalists that will be named on Nov. 13. The winner will be announced Dec. 10.
Tulsa returns home to H.A. Chapman Stadium for just the third time this season to face the SMU Mustangs on Homecoming. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. Saturday.
SMU (3-4, 2-1) leads the series 10-6 over Tulsa (4-3, 2-1). The Hurricane has won four of the last six contests, including a 37-31 win a year ago. The last two games have been decided by six points each.
