WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Oklahoma Senator Tom Coburn is leaving the so-called "Gang of Six," who were working to create a plan to cut the federal deficit.
The 3 Republicans and 3 Democrats could not agree on a final plan and Coburn says it's time for him to walk away.
"I'm just going to give it a rest for a while and see. They all worked in good faith, every one of them and so it's not a matter of bad faith, it's a matter of being a realist about what you can accomplish and what you can't," said Senator Tom Coburn.
The new "Gang of Five" will meet Wednesday without Senator Dr. Tom Coburn.
The group has been meeting since January to try and cut $4 trillion from the deficit.
Coburn says he still hopes the Senate will, on a bipartisan basis, pass a long-term deficit reduction package this year and he looks forward to working with anyone who is interested in putting forward a plan that is specific, balanced and comprehensive.
