Warm and Wind, Chance Storms Wednesday.

Warm and windy; that pretty well sums up our current weather pattern which will persist through Wednesday. Despite the available moisture, a layer of warm, dry air aloft is preventing any showers or storms from forming over us….at least in the short term. As was the case yesterday, a few storms may develop near the dry line in western Ok late this afternoon and again late Tue, but most of those will fall apart by the time they get this far east. Even so, there is a slight chance for a few storms late Tuesday but the main show still appears to be shaping up on Wednesday.

A vigorous upper level system will be coming out of the southern Rockies and moving eastward across the Plains during the Wed/Thu/Fri time frame. Current timing suggests the surface cool front will reach us along about Thu AM followed by cooler conditions for the rest of the week. Showers and storms are also likely, particularly by later Wed and through the overnight hours. Some of those will likely be severe.

As the qpf(quantitative precipitation forecast) map on the right shows, this does not appear to be a heavy rain maker for us, but by the same token our drought stricken neighbors to the west will not get much from it either, which is unfortunate. At any rate, the location and strength of the system aloft once it moves on past us will determine how much lingering rain we may receive over the course of the weekend and how much cooler we will be. Right now, the longer range products are still not being very consistent in that regard so we are going with cooler conditions with a possibility of some lingering showers.
