C-SPAN's Special Bus To Visit Schools In Broken Arrow And Jenks

BROKEN ARROW, Oklahoma -- The C-SPAN Digital Bus will visit two schools in the Tulsa area on Thursday as part of its national tour.

According to a news release, during the stops at Broken Arrow's Centennial Middle School and Jenks High School, students and teachers will have the opportunity to tour the Digital Bus and learn about C-SPAN's public affairs programming.

Cox Communication is bringing the special bus to Jenks High School as part of a special event to honor local student winners of StudentCam 2011.

C-SPAN's customized coach engages visitors of all ages through interactive multimedia. Hands on demonstrations feature the online C-SPAN Video Library and the network's social media offerings, in addition to special resources for civics teachers and their students.

The bus will be at Centennial Middle School on East Omaha Street from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and then move to Jenks High School on East B Street from 1 until 3 p.m.

During its visit to Jenks High School, a number of StudentCam winners will be recognized.

  • Second Prize ($1500): Rachel Leonard and Emily Irvin, The Drive to Save an Industry
  • Third Prize ($750): Crystal Kayiza, A New Vision
  • Third Prize ($750): Hannah Weakley and Connor Hall, A Rising Tide
  • Third Prize ($750): Mathew Dixon and Tyler Sherbon, Gotta Love the V.A.
  • Honorable Mention ($250): Andrea Phillips and Jamie Sue Wilson, Cyber Intrusion
  • Honorable Mention ($250): William Whitten, Education for All: A Special IDEA
  • Honorable Mention ($250): Andrew Eiler, Grant Me an Education

StudentCam is an annual documentary competition that encourages students to create short films about political and public policy matters.
