TULSA, Oklahoma -- The Tulsa City Council's been chewing on Mayor Dewey Bartlett pretty regularly since he was elected. Did you know you can take a bite out of the mayor yourself?
There's a downtown restaurant where Dewey's on the menu.
When it's time for a bite to eat downtown, a favorite spot is the Dilly Deli. A unique menu feature is that almost everything is named for someone.
"It's named after my friends and family," said General Manager Dru Titchner. "We just wanted something fun, you know."
Every sandwich has a name and a story.
Rick Wells: "Who's Connie?"
Dru Titchner: "A friend of mine, Leroy was one of my dogs - it's a salad. Everything's got a name."
Another salad on the menu is The Dewey named for Mayor Dewey Bartlett.
"Basically it's our chicken salad, salad. Chicken salad or tuna salad, cucumbers, tomatoes, croutons and your choice of dressing," the general manager said.
Cole Brown's back in the kitchen putting a Dewey together for us. Looks pretty much like a salad.
"We do 20 or 30 of these a day with both tuna and chicken," said Cole Brown, a Dilly Deli chef.
Really, it's the exact same salad as the Kathy Taylor when she was the mayor.
"It's like our rotating mayor salad," Dru said.
There were no changes except the name. I'd have thought the Kathy Taylor would have more vinegar in the dressing the Dewey more oil. Nope the type of dressing's optional.
"It's a nice safe salad you can do anything you want with," said chef Cole Brown.
They told me Mayor Taylor came in occasionally to have her salad.
Rick Wells: "Has Dewey been in?"
General Manager Dru Titchner: "He has not."
Rick Wells: "What?"
Dru Titchner: "I know. They're coming in next month."
Next month? Wonder what dressing he'll choose: oil or vinegar?
The Dilly Deli is located at 2nd Street and Elgin in downtown Tulsa. It's open every day.
