BROKEN ARROW, Oklahoma – A 26-year-old Tulsa woman and a young boy were killed when their minivan was involved in a head-on crash with a city trash truck in Broken Arrow Monday evening, Broken Arrow Police said.
It happened on 145th East Avenue between 71st and 81st Street about 7 p.m. Monday.
Broken Arrow Police Sergeant Ed Ferguson said Stephanie Reyes was driving south on 145th East Avenue when she crossed the center line and hit a City of Broken Arrow trash truck driving the opposite direction.
"The driver of the truck attempted to evade by coming to a stop, but the van unfortunately hit the trash truck," Ferguson said.
Police said Reyes and a boy, not identified were pronounced dead at the scene. Officers said a 7-year-old girl in the minivan was taken to a hospital in critical condition.
Police said the driver of the trash truck, 26-year-old Dornell Scarborough was not injured. but two other men in the truck, Carl Taylor and Joel Taylor suffered minor injuries. Both were treated at the scene.
The names of the boy and the girl have not been released.
