TULSA, Oklahoma -- A man suspected of critically injuring a bicyclist in a hit-and-run turned himself into police Saturday.

Robert Fairchild, 20, was booked into the Tulsa County Jail and faces charges of leaving the scene of an injury accident.

A Tulsa police officer discovered the injured man next to his mangled bike near 15th Street and Cheyenne while on routine patrol around 2 a.m. Saturday.

According to an arrest report, Fairchild was driving a VW Jetta westbound on 15th when he allegedly struck the bicyclist, throwing him in the air.

Fairchild told investigators he thought it was a person he hit but fled the scene because he became scared, the arrest report states.

The victim received critical head injuries and remains in the hospital.
