TULSA, Oklahoma – Three children left home alone were able to make it out safely after a fire broke out in their apartment Monday morning, Tulsa firefighters said.
It happened about 8 a.m. Monday at the Willow Creek Apartments at Archer and Garnett.
Crews arrived to find lots of smoke coming from the apartment. They said the fire burned itself out before firefighters arrived.
Firefighters said three children inside the apartment, ages 1, 3, and 12, were not injured.
"They woke up and there was smoke in the apartment and the alarm was going off," Tulsa Fire Captain Dan Heinrichs said.
Police said the mother of the one-year-old and three-year-old was at work. The mother's younger brother, a 12-year-old boy, was babysitting the two kids.
The apartment was a total loss. An investigation into what caused the fire is underway.
No other units damaged in the fire.
