MUSKOGEE Oklahoma -- Some Oklahoma veterans have a few new set of wheels to help them get to and from their appointments.

The Veterans Transportation Service started Tuesday with new vans.

"Some of our Veterans have difficulty getting to their appointments due to lack of transportation or due to a medical condition," said Mindy Underwood, Administrative Officer for the VTS. "This new program will help ensure our Veterans get the care they need and deserve and help reduce barriers for Veterans to get to and from their outpatient appointments."

Anyone who receives care at Muskogee, Vinita or Harshorne Veterans medical centers is eligible for a ride.

Veterans can schedule a ride through their VA primary care doctor or by calling 918-577-3500, or toll-free 877-905-4538.
