SAND SPRINGS, Oklahoma -- The city manager of Reedley, California is now the city manager of Sand Springs.
The city council Monday night voted to hire former Checotah native Rocky Rogers as city manager.
A graduate of Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Rogers has worked 18 years in city management, the last three as city manager of Reedley, California.
Rogers spent 11 years in the U.S. Air Force, including a four-year assignment with the AWACS unit at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City.
Sand Springs Mayor Bob Walker says Rogers' emphasis was a strong economic development and urban renewal duties. "This establishes a good fit for Sand Springs," Walker said.
Rogers is expected to start his duties sometime in June.
