Tulsa Deputies Search For Suspect In Deadly Double Shooting

Deputies said a man was in his backyard in the 14800 block of East 171st Street when the suspect came out of the woods and opened fire.

LEONARD, Oklahoma -- Tulsa Police are searching for a gunman who killed one man and injured a woman in a shooting in rural Tulsa County Monday.

The shooting happened in the 14800 block of East 171st Street, between Bixby and Leonard, about 5:30 p.m.

Deputies said the homeowner was in his backyard when the suspect came out of the woods and opened fire. Deputies said the homeowner was shot and killed.

Deputies said the woman tried talking to the suspect, but then he turned the gun on her.

"After the assailant had fired shots at her, striking her, she fled to the wooded area for refuge, she actually had her cell phone, she was able to call in and alert police what was transpiring," said Sergeant Shannon Clark, with the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office. 

The woman was taken by Life Flight to a Tulsa hospital.  Deputies said despite her injuries, the woman was able to tell them what happened.

Neighbors said they are shocked.  They said they feel the area is so safe, they don't even lock their doors.

"It doesn't happen out here," one woman said.  "It doesn't happen out here."

"From the description of the pickup, I'm sure I know who it is, my neighbor right up the road here.  He's not married but he's an awesome nice guy," said Dave Bos.

Deputies are looking for a white man, in his 50's, about 5'10," and 155 pounds.  They said he took off in the homeowner's pickup truck.  The truck is described as a 1994 two-tone blue over gray Chevy pickup with a Creek Nation tag of A6F51.

The victims' names have not been released.
