UNDATED -- The Oklahoma Highway Patrol closed both westbound lanes of Interstate 44 - The Turner Turnpike - just southwest of Bristow due to a semi trailer truck fire Thursday afternoon.
The truck was located at mile marker 189, which is about six miles west of Bristow.
The Department of Public Safety reopened one westbound lane just after 6 p.m. Thursday. A one mile section of the outside lane remains closed Friday morning allowing crews to clean up the scene.
The truck was hauling crushed cars on a flatbed trailer which are continuing to burn. It appears the driver had time to unhook his truck and move it away from the burning cars.
The view from SkyNews 6 indicates the incident also sparked a grass fire that burned a section of land along the side of the highway.
Traffic was diverted off the highway at Bristow and Stroud while the westbound lanes were closed. Vehicles that were stuck in the traffic jam were allowed to drive slowly past the fire.
