TULSA, Oklahoma -- Tulsa Police have arrested 30-year-old Edwin Jones in connection with the city's 61st homicide of the year.
Police received a call about a shooting in the 1300 block of North Allegheny at about 4:30 a.m. Upon arrival, officers found the victim, 29-year-old Anthony Payne dead in the street with numerous gunshot wounds to the head and body.
Police say a witness heard shots, went outside and saw Jones firing a handgun at Anthony Payne's body lying in the middle of the street. The witness says Jones left the scene but returned a minute later and began pounding Payne's head into the ground.
Tulsa Police believe an argument between Jones, Jones' wife and Payne inside Jones' home led up to the shooting.
"What we do know is that there has been some kind of ongoing relationship, whether it be friendship or what between the shooter and his wife and the victim. The victim was over here tonight, don't know if they were having a party or what the situation was, or came over for some other reason," said Tulsa Police Captain Shawn King.
Police recovered the handgun they believe was used in the shooting.
Jones was booked into the Tulsa County jail on a complaint of first degree murder.
A court hearing is set for December 31, 2010.
