SAND SPRINGS, Oklahoma -- Wekiwa Road in Sand Springs is open for business, offering holiday shoppers an easier time getting to Cimarron Center and Cimarron Plaza, according to the City of Sand Springs.
One of the eastbound lanes had been closed since last January for a $3.2 million Oklahoma Department of Transportation project.
Work involved widening a .7-mile section of Wekiwa Road between Highway 97 and River City Park Road. The new concrete roadway features curb and gutter drainage, a center turn lane for westbound traffic, a 10-foot wide sidewalk along the south curb for pedestrians, and intersection and traffic signal improvements at the Highway 97 interchange with the Sand Springs Expressway.

"This project had been planned for a number of years, and its construction opens up a safer and more convenient route to nearby businesses, River City Park and the Case Center," said Sand Springs Mayor Bob Walker.
"With the holiday shopping season in full swing, the new road's completion could not have come at a better time."
The accompanying sidewalk will provide a safe way for pedestrians to reach River City Park and the Case Center – including the new skate park that is set to open before year's end.
