SAND SPRINGS, Oklahoma -- Sand Springs police say they will be paying close attention to a site that's infamous for attracting vandals.
The Hissom Memorial Center closed in 1993. Since then, rumors about ghosts roaming the halls of the mental institution have become part of local folklore.
Police say they've already received 48 calls about trespassing at Hissom this year, and have issued 30 citations.
"It's a $254 fine," said Asst. Sand Springs Police Chief Mike Carter. "Before they come out there, they want to know that we'll be watching it, especially tonight. Just make sure it's worth $254 before you attempt it."
Carter says the vandalism at Hissom has included broken windows and stolen copper.
