TULSA, Oklahoma -- A 27-year-old motorcycle rider died after crashing early Thursday on Tulsa's Inner Dispersal Loop.

The wreck happened just before 3 a.m. on the Broken Arrow Expressway at Detroit.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says the man, identified as Jeromy Jackson of Tulsa, lost control when he hit some sand near the Detroit exit ramp, causing the bike to slide for 65 feet and hit an exit sign.

Troopers say Jackson's bike knocked the sign off its mount and broke pieces off of it.

Jackson was pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was involved in the accident.

Troopers say speed was also a factor in the wreck.  They say Jackson was not wearing a helmet.

This crash is similar to one early on October 1, 2010.  Troopers say a motorcycle rider was westbound on I-244 in Tulsa when he decided to take the Yale exit but hit an exit sign.
