OWASSO, OKLAHOMA -- Twelve Green Country schools will participate in the Project Learning Tree GreenSchools Program starting this week to give their schools an environmental assessment. Students and teachers will attend a two-day workshop at the Owasso Senior High School Wellness Center.
The program gives middle and high school students the tools and skills to learn how green their schools are.
The workshop Thursday and Friday will launch the program as students learn how to conduct the investigations and use energy monitoring equipment provided to each school.
Students will receive equipment includes light meters, temperature monitors, a watt-meter for measuring electricity, and CO2 monitors.
Students will investigate their schools and how they perform in five areas: energy use, waste and recycling, water, school site, and environmental quality (such as indoor air quality, school transportation, and use of chemicals). Based on their findings, they design and implement an action project and measure its impact.
