TULSA, OK -- The former Headquarters of the Tulsa Fire Department is close to being declared surplus by the City of Tulsa. The city no longer uses the property at 4th and Frankfort since the fire department administrative staff moved to One Technology Center.

The change will allow the city to transfer the property to the Tulsa Development Authority, which plans to sell the property to a developer. The TDA will first ask for proposals from developers before selling the property.

The Tulsa Opera had expressed interest in buying the property, but the city council rejected a proposal to transfer it directly, in favor of marketing the property to see if a better offer would come in.

The city council plans to take action on the transfer Thursday.

The city is also in the process of marketing another former fire station at 14th and Trenton, and has other old stations that it also plans to sell.
