PAYNE COUNTY -- A 23-year-old Drumright man is dead following a collision Sunday night that troopers say involved texting while driving.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reports the accident happened on 9th Street, 1/10 of a mile west of Norfolk Road, 2.5 miles east of Cushing.
Dallas M. Hutchinson of Drumright was traveling eastbound on 9th Street when troopers say he drifted off the road to the right while texting, overcorrected, got back on the road, left the road to the right and struck a fence post. Troopers say the vehicle then went airborne and struck a telephone pole.
Hutchinson was pinned for about 10 minutes before being freed by the Cushing Fire Department.
Hutchinson was transported by air to a Tulsa hospital. He was admitted in critical condition with head and arm injuries. He was pronounced dead at about 5:30 p.m. Monday, according to OHP.
Troopers report the cause of the collision was due to inattention to driving.
