TULSA, OK -- Just one day after Tulsa Police put one of their helicopters back in the air, crews captured a dramatic chase.
Officers on the ground spotted a stolen vehicle Saturday night. Squad cars followed the driver on the ground while the helicopter followed in the air. The driver sped through East Tulsa, running red lights and nearly side-swiping several other drivers, according to police.
TPD says that's exactly the situation when they want support in the sky.
"Had the helicopter not been in the air, we would have had a pursuit at that time in the evening, obviously with the traffic out, could've turned deadly," Officer Jason Willingham said.
Police say the suspect eventually crashed his car, flipping several times before he was thrown from the vehicle. There is no word on his injuries.
