Okmulgee Teen Dies After Crashing Tow Truck

A 16-year-old Okmulgee boy driving a wrecker was killed when the vehicle overturned on a curve.

OKMULGEE COUNTY -- A 16-year-old Okmulgee teen driving a wrecker was killed when the vehicle overturned on a curve.

Troy Don Kimbley died of massive injuries at about 2:16 p.m. Tuesday on State Highway 56 near the Okmulgee-Okfuskee County line, according to a report by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

Kimbley's 1991 International Rollback wrecker was headed westbound when the vehicle failed to negotiate a curve, ran off the right side of the road and overturned two and a half times coming to rest on its top.

The tow truck was hauling a vehicle, the report states.

A passenger, 31-year-old David Mattingly, Jr. of Okmulgee, was treated and released from an Okmulgee hospital with minor injuries.

Both driver and passenger were wearing seat belts, according to the trooper's report.
