TULSA, OK -- Another milestone of the I-44 widening project is complete.
Both lanes of the frontage road between Peoria and Yorktown are now open, several months ahead of schedule.
That's because crews finished the Perryman Ditch. The 20-foot tall, 40-foot wide ditch is a key piece of the widening project that will carry flood water and routine run-off underneath I-44 to the Arkansas River.
The entire I-44 widening project will expand traffic lanes between Riverside Drive and Yale from four to six lanes and improve on and off-ramps at Harvard, Lewis, Peoria, and Riverside.
The next phase of the project will be in the area of Peoria and Riverside. That work is scheduled to begin later this fall.
