TULSA, OK -- U.S. Cellular is moving its credit and collections department from Tulsa to its Financial Services Center in Madison, Wisconsin and a Texas-based contract vender in Houston, according to a company news release.
The move will affect about 160 employees.
"This will enable U.S. Cellular to provide customers with the same high quality of service that it provides today at reduced cost. The transition will begin this summer and will be completed by March 2011," the release states.
The 160 employees will be encouraged to apply for jobs in the company's Tulsa-based Customer Care Center. The care center has about 430 associates currently and will grow to 560 next year, the company states.
Employees who stay with the credit and collections department over the next nine months will get at least eight weeks of pay and extended COBRA insurance coverage as part of their severance package.
U.S. Cellular has done business in Tulsa for more than 20 years.
