Man Charged With Murder Of Mayes County Volunteer Firefighter

MAYES COUNTY – There are new details now in the death of a Mayes County volunteer firefighter.

Prosecutors filed murder charges against Nick Shires in the death of Mike Cobb.

Cobb was found in his home after it burned to the ground in April 2009. The medical examiner's office said he died from blunt force trauma and smoke inhalation.

Family and friends say they suspected all along Cobb had been murdered.

Shires is currently serving a DUI sentence in Creek County.

Cobb was a 39-year-old father of three. He worked as a plant foreman and enjoyed coaching his daughter's softball team.
