OKLAHOMA CITY -- An Oklahoma artist is drawing fire for taking creative license with an image of the Virgin Mary.
Marilyn Artus created a series that includes the Virgin Mary holding a grenade and another with a machine gun. She says she wanted to make people think about how they view the Holy Mother as the classic good girl.
But, Catholics say it's an insult to their faith.
"With us the Holy Mother is put in a place of honor," Karen Morton, Sacred Heart Store, said. "If you're Christian, you shouldn't go look at it."
Artus' work is on display at the Paseo Arts Festival going on this weekend in Oklahoma City.
