Creek County Mother Found Dead On Side Of The Road

CREEK COUNTY -- The family of a Creek County mother found dead on the side of the road is speaking out about their anger. 

Justin Wells found the body of 26-year-old Becky Doty as he was taking out the trash Monday morning before work. He says he saw a body, lying limp in the weeds, at 51st Street and 369th West Avenue, southwest of Mannford.

"I would have like to at least, at least have the opportunity to go out and help," Wells said.

He called 911. It was the first time Creek County authorities heard about it.

"You don't expect it. And at first, you're yeah, you're kind of taken back," he said. "Cause you don't see this every day. Especially in my life. I mean, I've never seen a dead body. Especially in my own front yard."

It was the body of 26-year-old Becky Doty, a mother of two. Her husband, Chad Gilliam, identified Becky as his common-law wife. He says she went out to the local VFW for drinks Sunday night.

Deputies say someone drove her home in a pickup truck. Only she never made it.

"She was one of the best people I ever knew," Gilliam said. "And I took her love for granted. And I should never have."

Investigators located the driver of the pickup, who said he saw her jump out of the back of the truck and heard her hit the ground. He told investigators he stopped, didn't see a body, and kept driving home.

Investigators also spoke with Doty's roommate who told them she had not been taking her medication for depression and was talking about suicide. The roommate told investigators she didn't think Doty would ever act on it.

"I could rip anybody's head off right now," Gilliam said. "My emotion is turning into aggression."

Justin Wells is also frustrated that no one called for help, and that nobody knocked on his door.

"It upsets me," he said. "The fact that we are the type of people who, if someone would have come up needing help, we would have offered it. We're your everyday, normal, country folk."

Becky's oldest son is five-years-old. He graduated from the Mannford Head Start program last Thursday. Her husband says it was one of the proudest days of her life. She also has a three-year-old.

Funeral arrangements for Doty are pending.

The Creek County Sheriff's Office says the driver could be charged for not reporting that a person fell out of his moving vehicle. But ultimately they'll hand off the case to the District Attorney's office.
