OKTAHA, OK -- The U.S. Postmaster in this Muskogee County town is used to seeing wildlife in her yard, but a visitor that stopped by last week delivered a real surprise.

Sue McCracken says her husband, Jim, was taking out a load of trash while cleaning their garage when he saw a big cat sitting at the base of a tree in the front yard.

The McCrackens live south and east of Oktaha near Dirty Creek.

Sue said her husband had been making a lot of noise in the garage, so he was surprised to see the cat sitting quietly at the base of a maple tree about 60 feet from the house.

Jim tapped on the window to get Sue's attention and she grabbed her camera then quietly went outside to take photos.

"We were amazed at how calm the cat was since he seemed to be aware of our presence.  It was a beautiful cat and looked so healthy," Sue said.

Sue said the two of them watched the cat for about 20 minutes and were sad when he finally walked into the woods.

Sue posted a photo of the cat on NewsOn6.com by emailing it to pics@newson6.net.

The cat looked different and much larger than other bobcats the McCrackens have seen.

She sent a photo to the Porter office of the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation which confirmed it was a bobcat.  The office says it doesn't have the typical black tops on its ears, but it's still a bobcat.

The office told Sue that if she and her husband were afraid of the cat they could arrange to have it trapped and relocated, but Sue said they love wildlife and having it trapped would break her heart.

Sue believes the cat was stalking wild turkey which frequent the McCrackens' yard.  She said there's also plenty of rabbits and squirrels, too.

She's hoping to photograph a pair of roadrunners that lives in the woods near the house.

She's also hoping the bobcat returns.

"We have not seen him since but hope he will visit us again."
