TULSA, OK -- Thursday night the Tulsa City Council rejected the appointment of Eric Gomez to the Tulsa Metropolitan Area Planning Commission.
Six of the nine councilors voted against the nomination of Gomez, who is a former city councilor.
Gomez was nominated to the post by Mayor Dewey Bartlett, who personally argued for the appointment before the council Thursday night.
Seven other speakers asked the council to support the nomination, while eight spoke against him, arguing his ties to the real estate industry made him unfit to serve. Gomez is a real estate broker.
Councilors Mautino, Christiansen, Henderson, Turner, Barnes and Trail voted against the nomination, while Councilors Bynum, Eagleton and Westcott voted for Gomez.
