TULSA, OK -- The city of Tulsa has been awarded a $12 million federal Beacon Community Grant by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

OU-Tulsa will release more details about the grant Wednesday morning.

The school's medical center teamed up with IBM just over a year ago to build a storage system that can hold medical records for every person treated in Tulsa. They were hoping at that time to get stimulus money to help pay for it.

According to a press release from the school, the three-year program is expected to improve the quality, safety and efficiency of health care, result in approximately $200 million in costs savings annually and ultimately create jobs.

Tulsa is one of 15 cities nationwide to get the grant.
