Man Charged In Deadly Sand Springs Crash Out On Bond

SAND SPRINGS, OK -- The man involved in a Christmas Eve crash that killed a Sand Springs family is back out on bond Monday.

A Tulsa County judge raised his bail Monday to $150,000. But the families of the victims feel like that wasn't high enough. 

"There's nothing worse than losing a child, but when your entire family is wiped out, its indescribable and overwhelming," said Betty Carl, victim's aunt.

Carl's niece, Angela Mulanax, Angela's husband, Michael, and their 18-year-old son, James, were all killed when police say a yellow Hummer slammed into them. The Mulanax's 15-year-old daughter wasn't in the car.

"I can't begin to tell you how it's changed her. Her whole life has changed," said Carl.

Carl and her family believe one man's life has not changed enough -- the driver of the Hummer, Steven Jameson.

"Our lives were changed forever when the accident happened. As far as I know, Mr. Jameson's has changed very little. He has continued on with his life, in school. And our family has been devastated," said Carl.

Jameson was just charged last Friday with three counts of first-degree manslaughter, drug possession and driving without a license. His attorney says his client was checking on a dog in the backseat and when he looked up, he'd crossed into oncoming traffic. He says drugs were not a factor and this is simply tragic, but completely unintentional.

"Clearly he didn't intend to kill anybody. He had a car wreck. And the results of it were awful," said Allen Smallwood, Defense Attorney.

Angela's mother and aunts say this was no accident. It was a choice on Jameson's part to drive without a license and they want him held responsible.

"Justice. We want justice for them. We want no extra special considerations for Mr. Jameson," said Carl. "We want him to be treated like anyone else in these circumstances and we don't feel like that has necessarily been done so far."

The judge ordered Jameson to not drive and to stay out of bars, as a condition of his bond. He will be back in court next Monday.
