FORT GIBSON LAKE -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is warning boaters on Fort Gibson Lake of lower than normal lake levels.

In a news release the Corps says it will be keeping the lake about one foot below normal for the next two to three years to perform maintenance on the dam.

Right now, a contractor is working on the flood gates at the Fort Gibson dam.

Officials say lake levels will fluctuate depending on the season.

Boaters should anticipate lower water levels during the spring and fall.  In addition, periods of heavy rain could cause an increase in flows coming into Fort Gibson Lake

The Corps says lower than normal lake elevations may expose new boating hazards and urges lake users to use caution while boating and launching boats.

For more information about current lake levels at www.swt.usace.army.mil or call the Fort Gibson Lake office at 918-682-4314.
