TULSA, OK -- Tulsa Fire investigators say discarded smoking materials are to blame for one of two apartment fires in Tulsa early Monday morning.
Fire officials say firefighters were dispatched to Bristol Parks Apartments in the 4400 block of South Garnett shortly after 6 a.m. Monday.
Firefighters found heavy smoke and fire coming from one of the apartments and out of the eave.
Firefighters found a 23-year-old woman hiding in a closet. She was taken to a Tulsa hospital with burns on her hands and arms. There is no word on her condition.
Two dogs in the apartment were also rescued.
Tulsa Fire credited an unidentified citizen with alerting residents in the complex before firefighters arrived on scene.
Eight units of the 16-unit apartment building were impacted by the fire. Two were damaged by fire, the rest suffered smoke and water damage.
The fire was determined to be an accident and was because of discarded smoking materials, according to investigators.
Tulsa Fire also responded at about 5:30 a.m. Monday to a fire at another apartment complex in the 6700 block of South Lewis.
Fire officials say several units were damaged at the Pomeroy Park Apartments.
When firefighters arrived, they found heavy fire and smoke showing from multiple apartments.
Out of the eight apartments impacted by the fire, Tulsa Fire says only three were occupied.
The Tulsa Red Cross chapter says it has assisted 13 people affected by the fire.
There were no injuries from this fire. The cause has not been determined.
