Former Dewey Resident To Be Honored With A Postage Stamp

OKLAHOMA CITY - The National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum will host a ceremony Saturday to coincide with the first day issue of a U.S. Postal Service issues stamp honoring movie cowboy, Tom Mix.

The 'Cowboys of the Silver Screen' stamp set will also feature Roy Rogers, Gene Autry and William S. Hart. 

On Sunday, the Tom Mix Museum in Dewey will hold an open house as part of the new stamp.  Tom Mix's grandson and great grandson, Gordon R. Hill and Gordon (Rusty) Hill will be at the open house reception at 3 p.m. 

Tom Mix, who made 336 films between 1910 and 1935, was a deputy sheriff and rodeo champion in Dewey before he was hit on the silver screen.

The Dewey Post Office will also be on hand to hand postmark souvenier envelopes. 

The Tom Mix Museum is located in Dewey at 721 North Delaware.
