TULSA, OK -- The Tulsa Fire Department believes transients may be responsible for a small fire at the old Tulsa Club at 5th and Cincinnati early Wednesday morning.
Several witnesses told The News On 6 they were on top of the Philtower parking garage when they saw smoke coming from the Tulsa Club.
They called 911 and firefighters found the fire on the third floor of the boarded-up building.
Damage to the structure was limited to the third floor.
The building was once frequented by Tulsa's wealthiest and most famous residents, but has been vacant for years, which makes it a target for vandals and for homeless people looking for shelter.
The city of Tulsa filed a foreclosure against the property's owner for the $331,815 it cost the city to fix building code issues.
The owner, Carl Morony of California, has filed a motion to vacate the judgment.
The city of Tulsa also put a lien on the property, demanding a $22,000 payment for 10 years' worth of unpaid fees.
