TULSA---If you travel the path along Riverside Drive at 41st Street you'll see blue ribbons tied to the trees. These ribbons are to remind you that April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month.
‘Communities like ours seek to raise awareness about the need to keep children safe,' said Desiree Doherty, Executive Director of the Parent Child Center of Tulsa, ‘we're doing that today by promoting the Blue Ribbon Tree, we're going to have guests and friends and the public here today to tie blue ribbons on these trees here at the park.'
‘The work that the Parent Child Center here in Tulsa does is phenomenal,' said QuikTrip President Chet Cadieux, a sponsor of the event, ‘if you think about where the community ought to be spending their time to make a difference in the next generation, they're right at the heart of it and they know what they're doing and are efficient and we are really proud to participate with them because they do great work.'
The Parent Child Center is a partner agency of Tulsa Area United Way and nationally recognized by the Council on Accreditation. For more information on programs and services aimed at keeping children safe, visit their web site www.ParentChildCenter.org
