911 Calls Flood Muskogee Police Following Mall Shooting

MUSKOGEE, OK -- When shots rang out at Muskogee's Arrowhead Mall on Saturday, calls from eyewitnesses flooded Muskogee Police Department's 911 switchboard.

The News On 6 obtained some of those frantic 911 calls. There were dozens of calls -- some calm, others terrified -- all pleading for the police to come quickly.

• Operator: 911. Police, fire or ambulance?

Caller: There's been a shooting at the mall, Arrowhead Mall. Muskogee.

Operator: Has anybody been hit?

Caller: I don't know! I don't know!

• Operator: Police department.

Caller: My mom just called me from Arrowhead Mall and she said there's shooting today.

Operator: We've got officers there, thank you.

Tearful, frantic calls poured into the Muskogee police department as gun fire erupted inside the mall. Callers varied on how many shots they heard.

• Caller: We have a shooting.

Operator: Have you seen it?

Caller: They shot nine shots, everybody took off running and (unintelligible).

• Operator: Police department.

Caller: Yeah, there was like eight shots fired inside the mall down by the Stage store.

Five people were shot and several callers reported they saw the victims.

• Operator: Did you see anything?

Caller: Yes somebody's been shot. He's bleeding right now in front of me. I need an ambulance and a police officer.

Operator: Okay, they're already there, thank you.

Operators were fielding so many calls they almost hung up on one woman, before she could tell them about a victim in her store.

• Operator: Police department.

Caller: Shots fired at the

Operator: Okay, did you see it?

Caller: No, but I have a girl in my

Operator: Okay, thank you.

Caller: I HAVE A GIRL IN MY STORE THAT'S BLEEDING ALL OVER THE PLACE. SHE'S BEEN SHOT.

Operator: Which store? Which store are you in?

Caller: Famous Footwear

Operator: Famous Footwear? Okay, we've got an officer on the way, thank you.
