TULSA, OK -- The Tulsa County Sheriff's Office says an inmate at the county jail was pronounced dead at the jail Wednesday morning.
In a news release, TCSO says 26-year-old Bess Morgan Winfrey-Woodruff was pronounced dead from what was believed to be a drug overdose.
The sheriff's office says Winfrey-Woodruff was booked into the jail Tuesday night.
After being placed into the open dormitory style female unit at the jail, a nurse found Winfrey-Woodruff unresponsive.
The release says an initial investigation produced evidence that Winfrey-Woodruff had internally smuggled in prescription narcotics.
Witnesses told jail staff, that shortly after Winfrey-Woodruff arrived she produced a quantity of pills and began ingesting some of them.
Winfrey-Woodruff was booked into the jail after surrendering to a deputy on a complaint of an application to revoke and a city of Tulsa municipal warrant for not wearing a seatbelt.
