BROKEN ARROW, OK -- The city of Broken Arrow has been honored as a Tree City USA community.
Broken Arrow has participated in the Tree City USA program for the past 10 years.
In a news release, Broken Arrow reports it is one of 23 cities, two Air Force bases and five public utilities that have been designated as a Tree City USA community or Tree Line USA utility in Oklahoma this year.
To earn Tree City USA status from The National Arbor Day Foundation, a city must establish a tree board, create a tree ordinance, spend $2 per capita annually on taking care of the city's trees and celebrate Arbor Day with an official proclamation and city-wide observations.
The release indicates Broken Arrow has organized tree planting and maintenance efforts throughout the year and distributed educational material about trees to the public.
