OKLAHOMA CITY, OK -- A Collinsville couple has claimed a Powerball ticket worth $1 million that was sold over the weekend in Owasso.
Marta and David Thirion bought the ticket at QuikTrip #42, which is located at Garnett and 96th Street North in Owasso.
According to a news release from the lottery, Marta learned she had a winning ticket early Sunday morning.
"It was around 2 a.m. and I couldn't sleep," said Marta. "I got up to check my tickets and the winning ticket was the first ticket in my stack. I had to get a magnifying glass to make sure I was seeing the numbers correctly!"
Marta, who plays the lottery weekly, immediately woke her husband who wasn't convinced she'd won.
Earlier that evening the couple had decided to provide financial help to a mutual friend.
"We would want someone to do the same for us," said David.
Marta had purchased several tickets because of the high jackpot (one ticket sold in New Jersey won the $211.7 million jackpot) and received her numbers via Quick Pick. Her winning ticket matched the five white balls but not the Powerball, for a $200,000 prize. But because she selected the Power Play option and the multiplier was 5 that night, her prize is $1,000,000.
The couple is self-employed and plans to continue working. However, both Marta and David say they'll find some time to relax and enjoy the win.
"If we want to take the day off to go fishing, we can!" said David.
The Thirion's also plan to use their funds toward retirement as well as to purchase land for themselves and their children. They say they'll keep playing the lottery.
