TULSA, OK -- A 4-year-old-boy started a house fire Thursday morning and his 13-year-old brother accidentally dumped cooking grease on the flames which just made it worse.

The home is located in the 500 block of North 91st East Avenue.  The fire was first reported just after 10 a.m.

The mother told Tulsa Fire she was not at home at the time.  She said her 4-year-old son was playing with matches in a back bedroom and started a fire.  The 13-year-old, who was home because he was suspended from school, grabbed a pot of liquid off the stove to extinguish the flames, but it turned out the pot was filled with grease.

Tulsa firefighters say heavy smoke was pouring from the home when they arrived.

Tulsa Fire says 50 percent of the home sustained heavy fire damage while the rest of the structure suffered severe smoke damage.

Neither child was injured, but a Tulsa firefighter suffered second degree burns to his ears.  He was treated by a city medical official.

The Red Cross is assisting the family with shelter and food needs.
