SAPULPA, OK -- The economy in crisis is hitting smaller communities across eastern Oklahoma just has hard as the state's bigger communities.
The city of Sapulpa has told police and firefighters they could see layoffs as a last result, because sales tax collections are down.

On Wednesday, the police union met with city leaders to talk about money-saving ideas. Some ideas on the table include furloughs or pay cuts.
Nothing definite was decided, and talks will be continuing. If a solution can't be found, up to seven police officers and three firefighters could be laid off.
