Walmart To Lay Off 30-40 Employees At Its Offices In Bartlesville

BENTONVILLE, Ark. (AP) -- Walmart Stores Inc. says it is cutting 300 jobs at its Bentonville headquarters as part of a move to trim costs.

The News On 6 has learned in addition to the job layoffs in Arkansas, 30 to 40 employees from Walmart's administrative office in Bartlesville will also be laid off. 

The company said Wednesday that the positions are mainly in corporate support. The layoff was announced in a memo to employees from Walmart President and CEO Mike Duke.

Last month, the company announced it would close 10 Sam's Club stores in California, leaving 11,200 people without jobs.

In his memo, Duke called the layoff the "last major strategic piece" of the company's restructuring. The world's largest retailer has been working to eliminate duplication of duties among its 2 million domestic and foreign employees.

Walmart has 12,000 employees at its home office.
