SAND SPRINGS, OK -- As of 6:30 p.m., all stalled cars have been removed from 41st Street from 65th West Avenue in Berryhill to Highway 97. City Street Division crews are currently deploying two large plowing and sanding units to clear the roadway.
Sand Springs city officials have closed West 41st Street from 65th West Avenue in Berryhill west to Highway 97 in Sand Springs; and Highway 97-T from the Sand Springs Expressway (US 412) interchange at 129th West Avenue north to McKinley Road (Old Highway 97). Both of these roads have very hilly topography and several motorists have become stranded.
City sand and plow units are responding to 41st Street to gain access to the stranded motorists and get them moving again. On Highway 97-T, a city plow and sand truck slid into a ditch to avoid hitting another vehicle. At present, a large wrecker is responding to get the sand truck back onto the roadway.
Early Friday morning, another city sand truck rolled over while sanding an icy hillside street. City Fleet Maintenance crews repaired the truck and it is back in service.
