UNDATED -- Sand Springs' Emergency Operations Center was activated at Noon Thursday in case widespread electrical outages develop, or other weather-related emergencies occur. City street division crews have plows and sanding trucks standing by to work around-the-clock throughout the storm's duration.
"The storm is not looking as bad as it did yesterday, and we hope any damages that occur in our area from the ice will be limited," said Asst. Police Chief Mike Carter. "We have activated the EOC so we can respond quickly and in a coordinated manner should conditions rapidly deteriorate."
Broken Arrow Police have implemented Limited Collision Response protocol, according to Segeant Ed Ferguson.
Police will respond to investigate injury collisions only.
"If you are involved in a non-injury collision, exchange information with the other driver including driver license and insurance information," Ferguson said. "You may complete a City Operator's Collision Report form that is available at area Quik Trip stores or on the Police Department website at www.brokenarrowok.gov."
Ferguson also noted that if traffic signals are out at intersections, drivers should treat them as four-way stops.
Sand Springs city officials say that should ice and snow disable traffic light detectors at key intersections in the city, the lights will be set to flash red in all directions until the sensors can be thawed out.
Also, barricades have been pre-positioned to close 41st Street from Highway 97 east to Berryhill, and Highway 97-T north of the Sand Springs Expressway should conditions warrant.
Both roads are currently open.
Although the Case Community Center is being readied for a community shelter should power outages occur, it has not been opened as one at this time. The facility has a generator system to handle its electrical functions along with restrooms and showers.
