TULSA, OK -- The wait is finally over. After several years without a grocery store, north Tulsans can again shop for groceries with convenience.
Gateway Market held its grand opening Saturday in the Gateway Shopping Center at 1601 North Peoria, the former Albertson's Grocery store building.
Among those at the grand opening were Mayor Dewey Bartlett, city councilors Jack Henderson and Roscoe Tuner and Tulsa Economic Development Corporation Board President Casey Stowe.
"After months of hard work, I am so excited to finally open this store. (The store) will bring fresh food and shopping back to the north community and I'm proud to be a catalyst that has provided jobs and a much needed resource for local residents," said Antonio Perez, Gateway Market owner.
Dozens of people showed up to shop the aisle for the first time, many just happy to finally have the store they've been waiting for.
"Everybody's excited. We're like, ‘when is it gonna open? When is it gonna open?' We've been talking about it, but didn't know if it was going to really happen. But it really did happen. And that's a good thing. That's a good thing," said Clyde Yeldell Jr., Gateway Market shopper.
The new store's hours are from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week.
