TULSA, OK -- Northeastern Oklahoma has set a new record low for cold temperatures as residents woke up to another bitterly cold morning on Sunday.
Parts of several area lakes, like Oologah Lake were frozen over – an extremely rare occurrence, according to News On 6 meteorologist Dick Faurot.
"We've just experienced our most severe cold ever for this particular time frame – from Christmas Eve up til now," said Dick Faurot. "We've never experienced anything quite this cold for this long at this time of year."
The previous coldest temperatures in Tulsa were recorded the winter of 1911-1912.
Sunday's temperatures should reach at least the 32 degree mark with the big thaw getting well underway on Monday. Later in the week, the area should experience some above normal temperatures with a high of 52 degrees predicted for Wednesday.
