UNDATED -- The good news is that warmer temperatures are in store for northeast Oklahoma. The bad news? They're not expected until late in the weekend - at the earliest.
A dome of cold weather is hanging over the area until south winds can blow some of the bitter cold out of Green Country by Monday, according to News On 6 Chief Meteorologist Travis Meyer.
"It will be good Saturday in terms of light winds, bad when you walk outside and say 'Holy cow, it's still cold,'" Meyer said.
Much of Green Country woke up to a light dusting of snow Saturday morning.
"The flurries during the morning hours will be tapering off and only providing a light dusting to perhaps an inch for locations immediately downwind of some of the area lakes," said Meteorologist Dick Faurot.
"Clear skies and light winds will result in single digits again Sunday morning, but a return to a light southerly wind and lots of sunshine should get us to near the freezing mark," Faurot said.
Faurot said that although some forecast information would suggest much warmer temperatures for Sunday afternoon, he is taking a more conservative approach as of Saturday morning.
"This shallow, cold, arctic air typically is does not give up very easily so I have undercut the guidance significantly and hope that I am wrong," he said.
Eastern Oklahoma remains under a hard freeze warning through 6 a.m. Friday. Water pipes and mains are still in danger of freezing, and frost bite can occur if people are not properly dressed for the weather.
