Tulsa Police: Shooting Death Appears Accidental

A preliminary investigation revealed the victim had found an old shotgun and had been working on it. Officers say it is believed the gun accidentally went off and hit the victim in the chest.

TULSA, OK -- Officers with the Tulsa Police Department responded to a shooting at about 7:40 Sunday night in the 2200 block of North Birmingham Avenue.

When officers arrived, they found 24-year-old Jason Holliday dead on a bedroom floor. Officers determined Holliday had suffered a gunshot wound to his chest.

The preliminary investigation revealed the victim had found an old shotgun and had been working on it. Officers say it is believed the gun accidentally went off and hit the victim in the chest.

EMSA pronounced Holliday dead at the scene.

The victim's grandmother said she was in another room when she heard a loud bang that came from her grandson's room, according to police. Officers say she then went to his room and discovered him on the floor.

Police say at this time it appears that the shooting was an accident.
