Tulsa Woman Recants Brookside Rape Allegations

TULSA, OK  -- There are new developments in a reported rape in Tulsa's Brookside neighborhood.

Tulsa Police investigators say the woman who claimed she had been raped behind businesses at 35th and Peoria has now recanted her story.

Detectives say they are no longer looking for anyone matching the description of the man seen in the sketch released two weeks ago.

Police tell The News On 6, while it is frustrating, they do not want this story to keep sexual assault victims from contacting authorities.

"Come forward.  Don't feel like 'I won't be believed' because maybe this seems far-fetched.  You come forward and let the detectives, let us go through with our investigation," said Leland Ashley, Tulsa Police.

When The News On 6 talked to the woman, she did appear bruised.

Police believe there was a fight but it was not related to the woman's rape allegations.
