Pastor Billy Joe Daugherty’s Memorial Service Held At Mabee Center

TULSA, OK -- Thousands of mourners gathered in Tulsa Monday to bid farewell to Victory Christian Center Pastor Billy Joe Daugherty. Daugherty, 57, died Sunday, November 22 of non-Hodgkins lymphoma.

Doors to ORU's Mabee Center opened for the memorial service at 12 p.m. Monday.

Daugherty was the founder and leader of Victory Christian Center, one of Green Country's largest churches with a membership of 17,000. He also founded Victory Christian School, a private school with an enrollment of about 1,300 students, and Victory Bible Institute.

"All over the nation, virtually in every corner of the world, is somebody who's been touched by the influence of Billy Joe Daugherty," said Ron McIntosh, Victory Bible Institute Director.

Ron McIntosh heads up the Victory Bible Institute, which has more than 900 locations, in 93 countries. It's a realization of one of Daugherty's most profound beliefs.

"Everywhere he went he had a natural ability just to share the truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ," said Ron McIntosh.

Daugherty shared that gospel in places like Cambodia, Pakistan and Ethiopia. On six continents, Pastor Billy Joe touched millions of lives.

"Billy Joe Daugherty is a man of integrity, and so it was easy for people to believe him," said Ron McIntosh.

"His legacy is in people," McIntosh said.

In Sunday's church services, congregation leaders spoke of Daugherty as a man who "loved life, loved people and loved Christ."

Daugherty is survived by his wife, Sharon, and four children: John, Paul, Sarah, and Ruthie.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be sent to Victory Christian Center Missions or its Land and Building Fund. The church has set up a Memorial Page for Pastor Daugherty with more information on his life and the funeral service.
